Support Staff

Starla Clark
Starla came to the clinic in 1976 as a kennel attendant for the clinic's original owner, Dr. Lien. She graduated from Pierce College as a Veterinary Technician. After 25 years at the clinic, she has filled almost every role except doctor. Today she is the head receptionist, a licensed veterinary technician, and our office manager. She simply does it all and does it all well. She has two children and a beloved pot bellied pig named Edward. Starla has the dubious distinction of having more pets than any other staff member - 11 all together.

  Satoko
Satoko Kotera
Joining us in November 2007, Satoko may be the quietest and sweetest new member of our staff. Satoko was born in Japan and moved to the United States in 1999. Once here she attended Eastern Washington University where she obtained her degree in business. Four years ago she married her husband Mac and moved to Capital Hill. They currently share their home with a black cat named Tinkerbell.

  Jennifer
Jennifer Calhoun

Jennifer had been a client for 13 years before coming to work at the front desk in January of 2002. Jennifer grew up in West Seattle and now lives in Burien with a two year old French Mastiff named Honey that was brought in by animal control. When not working Jennifer enjoys going down to Alki beach for walks, photography, and traveling. Jennifer recently got married in August 2005.

  Sarah
Sarah Pitzen
Sarah initially volunteered at the clinic while in high school and officially became part of our staff in 2000. She worked part time at the clinic while she attended South Seattle Community College for two years. Currently, she is a full time veterinary technician and a strong advocate for patients in her care. Sarah has an infectious laugh and makes those around her smile. She plays the violin and bass in a punk band and enjoys snowboarding, going to concerts, and volunteering at the ferret rescue shelter in her spare time. She has 2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 ferrets, and 2 goldfish. Sarah would like to remind everyone to listen to Bob Barker: "Spay and Neuter Your Pets."

  Erin
Erin Sanborn
When asked what things Erin likes, she quickly replied FOOD! She apparently has eaten whole cakes on her own. Erin also enjoys Anime, reading, playing video games and is even a Dance Dance Revolution champion. In her free time she can be found rollerblading at Alki or Myrtle Edwards Park. Erin lives with a cat by the name of Blackbeard who is quite the snuggler and enjoys having his teeth brushed!

  Heather
Heather Aquino
Heather also joined our staff after volunteering at the clinic on weekends. She graduated in 1997 with a degree in Graphic Arts but her obsession with all things feline lead her to make a career change to veterinary medicine. She brought with her abundant positive energy and great communication skills. She has two young children, who have been occupying most of her time. When not spending time with her kids, Heather enjoys swimming, hiking, mountain biking with her husband Art, and spending time with her two cats, Tuesday and Small.

  Anna
Anna McElfatrick
Anna became a veterinary assistant at Lien Animal Clinic in 2000, in May of 2005 she became a licensed Technician. Her quiet, easy-going nature makes her wonderful to work with and adored by our patients. Anna has 2 cats, Jube, Kit Kat, and, 2 dogs, Maria and Billy, and 2 guinea pigs. Anna loves classic rock, Thin Lizzy, making cookies, taking her dogs to the park and old El Caminos. She also is learning to ride horses.

  Gwen
Gwen Francisco
Gwen joined our staff in the fall of 2005. She lives in West Seattle with her husband, son, 3 dogs, (Ginger, Molly, and Max), and one cat (Joey). Gwen was a reporter (broadcast and print) for 20 years and recently decided to make a career change to veterinary medicine. She has worked at the Humane Society and is currently studying to become a licensed technician. In her spare time, she loves to read and garden.
